Why Lana Cooks
What's going on here?
In this video, Lana, a University of Oregon student shares her thoughts on cooking. Cooking plays an important part in her family as it brings people together. She finds it satisfying to cook for herself as well as for others. It is a way for her to feel close and connect with her dad - her parents are divorced, so she grew up spending more time with her mum than her dad. Nowadays, when she visits her dad, grandmother, and brother, they will cook and eat a family meal together.
Highlights:
Lana's dad had a restaurant in San Francisco where he was also a chef. Her mum also worked there as a singer.
When her parents eventually got divorced, her dad moved far away. Lana stayed with her mum, while her brother stayed with their dad.
This meant that he missed a lot of her formative years.
